Home Modifications/Aging in Place
Most people are wanting to stay in their homes as they age for as long as possible. Unfortunately, most homes were not designed to enable us to do this successfully.
Accessibility is a major consideration in Home Modification/Aging in Place services. With access into the home, hallways, kitchens and bathrooms being the areas where greatest emphasis is placed.
I have an Executive Certificate in Home Modification from USC, Leonard Davis School of Gerontology, as well as a Lighting Specialist-1 Certification from NAILD (National Association of Independent Lighting Distributors). With these I look at the home differently. I have developed a questionnaire to help me better understand the needs of everyone living in the home, from hobbies, sleep, activities, and health concerns. With this information I conduct an audit of the home looking at the lighting at the entry to the home, in the main living areas, bedrooms, bathrooms and in transition areas inside and out of the home. I also educate during the audit on some of the changes that take place as the eye ages, levels of light that are needed for safety, fall reductions, enjoyment of activities, nutrition and how light can affect a good night’s sleep.
Once the audit has been conducted I will provide you with recommendations for how you can improve your lighting environment to make it more conducive to being able to safely and successfully stay in your home.
This is a unique and customized service, I am not aware of anyone else offering this type of home assessment. I enjoy the time spent with my clients as I get to understand their needs. Please contact me for more information.
